googlism gets us right

July 23rd, 2003

I’m not exactly sure how this site works, but googlism.com seems to have gotten the description of webdiscuss spot on:

http://www.googlism.com/what_is/w/webdiscuss/

Unfortunately the googlism site uses exit pop unders, so it sorta leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Maybe they should switch to using google adsense ads 😉

working on a new web project

July 23rd, 2003

So my business partner and I are pretty close to launching a new web project. It definitely has the potential to be pretty big.

We’re at the final testing and while all the major stuff is done, there are still a few straggling items that are holding things up (darn credit card processors and their non-standard code!)

He made a good comparison, it’s like when you’re moving and you’ve moved all the couches and beds and other “big” stuff, but then you look at your place and you see all the little crap left hiding in corners. Not that it’s important, but it seems to be everywhere…

some thoughts on pancakes

July 18th, 2003

I like pancakes. My wife made me try these frozen pancakes from Krusteaz yesterday, and while I was hesitant to try “fake” pancakes, I have to admit, they were pretty darn good!

I was watching an old episode of Family Guy the other day where little Stewie got his first taste of pancakes. He sums up my love for pancakes in this quote:

(from Family Guy Episode 11: http://www.southperk.com/e11.html )

Mitch Hedberg with some deep thoughts on pancakes:

“As a comedian, you have to start your act out strong, but you also have to save some of the good stuff for later… You can’t be like pancakes, all exciting at first, but by the end you’re fuckin’ sick of ‘em.” —Mitch Hedburg

I added that last dash since Mitch said he always wanted to be quoted with a dash. Go buy his CD, it’s pretty damn funny. Better yet, go see him live *editorial note: this post was originally written 2 years before Mitch passed away*
The best pancakes I’ve ever had were at Joann’s Country Kitchen Too in Modesto, CA. Pancakes as big as the 20 inch rims in a rap video.

kevin is da man

July 17th, 2003

That pretty much sums it up. Kevin is da bomb (do people still say that?)

He fixed the forums script links over there to the right so they would be XHTML compliant, and he helped me narrow down the bugs in the code and now this is a fully XHTML compliant web page. There’s something satisfying about having that little bagde at the bottom of the screen. It’s like a gold star in Kindergarten.

Oh, you don’t know Kevin? Kevin is the man behind the web’s greatest tool, TinyURL.com He also hosts the webdiscuss web based forums and he coded it so that the forum posts automatically show up in the newsgroup (and vice versa).

webdiscuss.com reborn

July 17th, 2003

This is the new webdiscuss.com. It is simplified and to the point. Just jump right in and join the discussion.

I may use this section for various postings and to capture quotes from the group.

Or it may just sit here as an unused blog.

This *was* going to be my first XHTML compliant site, but those forum links over there don’t want to validate. mofos.
